The Labin Art Express group (a culture and art association) was founded in Labin in 1991 with the aim of acting as an art and performance group whose work would be based on the iconography of mining life. Its first public presentation took place a year later at the Zagreb Museum of Contemporary Art where they introduced themselves and their work to the public. L.A.E. signifies Labin as the source, Art as the tool and Express as the mode. Together they represent the basic principles that guide the group’s production and promotion of alternative culture and art. The exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art showed the group to be a homogeneous and extra-avant-garde artistic entity that deploys all media in order to speak out in a unique language and in the alternative modes of artistic creation.
